Our medical/surgical unit can tell many heartwarming "Becky stories" that exemplify the caring and compassion that touch the lives of Becky's patients, their families, and her coworkers. She always looks for ways to make things better and easier to ensure excellent care and service that go far beyond her routine work obligations.
After caring for a homeless patient and recognizing his very basic discharge needs, she got him clothes, shoes and a sleeping bag to replace his which was old and torn. That was the beginning of "Becky's Closet" on our unit! She collects donations and buys new and used clothing so we always have items for our patients when needed.
In other examples, Becky cared for a patient who expressed a wish for paper, coloring books and pens to use at his ALF. The day after his discharge, Becky visited him and brought those art supplies for his enjoyment. She also paid a patient's prescription co-pay when the patient was unable to find the money. These, and so many more stories of Becky's unconditional generosity of self and spirit, clearly show why she is a DAISY nurse!
