Rebecca came in extra to work on CIC because we had a call off from another nurse. She came in early and stopped by the Nurse's station to say hello to the unit clerk. She could see that a fellow nurse and I were having blood pressure issues with a patient that had just gotten back from the Cath Lab. He was in extreme pain in his left arm due to the ulnar artery access from his Cath procedure. Without even being asked Rebecca jumped in to help transfer the patient to CVICU. If things were not crazy enough on the floor, when Rebecca and I got off the elevator we could hear that a code had been called on CVICU. Once again Rebecca stepped up and took over the care of the patient we just brought up to CVICU so that I could help with the code. She was able to provide comfort to the patient by reassuring him that he was going to be fine even with the chaos going on around him. She also brought comfort to the nursing staff in CVICU knowing that the new patient was being taking care.
Rebecca did all of this before her shift was to even start. She was aware that the unit needed help and she did not hesitate to lend a helping hand. She showed what true teamwork really is.
