Killeen, Kelly, Christina, and Brooke are a few to name but every member of Rhoads 7 deserves this Award. A year filled with turmoil, change, and new practices- this staff has managed to keep one thing as their top priority: patient care. Clinically and equally as important, patient's mentality.

Often our patients spend extensive time on our unit, 14-30 days and after discharge may be isolated from crowds for months. In that time, they may miss birthdays, weddings, births, deaths, and personal goals. This team of nurses reincarnated the Broad Street Run on the unit for a patient who would be missing it this year. They went home after their shift and came back to work with a plan. They dedicated their time to making posters to cheer patients on while completing 170 laps around the unit (which is equivalent to 10 miles). Nurses on the unit even set up a hydration station for the walkers.

While several patients were able to walk laps, two patients were successfully able to complete the 10-mile walk. These patients bonded by walking together and ultimately were able to build a friendship from this event. To me, that speaks volumes and is refreshing, almost like a breath of fresh air. The soul of nursing is to encourage patients to go the extra step mentally, physically, spiritually- when patients feel they may not be able to. I am proud and honored to work beside this amazing group of individuals.
