My father was in the ICU after an unexpected fall that resulted in a significant head injury. I was a complete basket case and was dealing with extreme anxiety and panic attacks. When Robert was on duty and taking care of my dad I knew my dad was in good hands. I felt more relaxed and a sense of calmness when he was there. Robert took the time to answer my questions, no matter how many times I asked. He was right there when dad needed something. He took the time to chat with my sister and me and listened to our stories about dad so he could know a little about him. In the end, Robert made sure dad was comfortable, explained what would be happening and made sure we were ready before they started shutting off the machines. I looked at Robert when they were shutting off the machines. I could see the sympathy, caring, compassion, and hurt in his eyes. My dad was not just a body on a bed to Robert, he was a person with a family that was heartbroken. Robert gave our family space to grieve but let us know that he was there if we needed anything. Boy did we need him. He was right there with a big hug and some beautiful words to comfort us. Robert had become more than just dad's nurse, he became someone we could trust, talk to, and lean on. He became a friend. A month after dad's passing, my sister and I stopped at the hospital. When we saw Robert, he greeted us with a smile and a hug, he had not forgotten us. Robert has a big heart, he is an amazing man and nurse. In our eyes, he is a forever friend and our angel in a time of need.
