Rowena not only makes sure that the patients are taken care of medically, but she also makes sure they have clothing.
Rowena has a very unique position here at St Luke's Sugar Land. She is our Med-Surg discharge Nurse. Rowena gets the privilege of meeting patients on their last day with us. Rowena made such an impression on her director, that she felt the need to nominate her for a DAISY Award. Rowena's director had this to say about her:
When I think about submitting names for the DAISY Award, I have certain criteria for that person to meet before I would consider them "DAISY worthy". I do not mean that bad, but it has to be someone that is doing more than what they are paid to do. Being nice is truthfully part of our jobs as nurses. Rowena: This sweet and tiny fireball of a nurse is someone that should be placed on the DAISY itself. She makes sure that our patients are taken care of to their satisfaction before she discharges them. She works to find medication at different pharmacies so that the patient can afford to eat and take their meds. She assists with getting the patients samples when they cannot afford the medications that they need to survive. She always seems to make it happen.
Rowena not only makes sure that the patients are taken care of medically, but she also makes sure they have clothing. I did not know this until recently, but she has a clothes closet that she runs so that people have items to give them dignity when they leave. Rowena is always the first to reach out to anyone going through a hard time or difficult situation. She helps to make sure that every staff member gets recognized for their birthday or any other special day. She has a heart for giving more than what is expected for work Thank you for allowing me to share just a little piece of Rowena.
