Ryan treated my Dad with the respect and dignity he deserved and enabled his wishes to be at home when he passed, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
Ryan introduced himself to my Dad on his first day of admission, and he was instantly put at ease by his reassurance and ability to explain in layman’s terms about his illness (bile duct cancer). COVID restrictions were in place, and this made communication between the hospital staff and ourselves a barrier. We couldn’t be there for ward rounds to ask questions, and visiting was limited to one person. Having Ryan as our link to the ward was invaluable. He was always there at the end of the phone to answer questions, support us, and keep us informed. He went out of his way to see my Dad each time he was admitted and returned our calls at his earliest convenience. Ryan ensured that a seamless service was delivered.
Even when my Dad was not an inpatient, and the GP failed us, Ryan was the one to get him the help he required. He would ensure that blood tests were ordered, scans were repeated, and he was readmitted when necessary. Ryan has been his advocate throughout, and without his quick actions, I do not believe my Dad would have lived as long as he did. He survived severe Jaundice, blockages, and Sepsis. My Dad had total respect for Ryan and appreciated his straight-talking. Ryan prepared my Dad both emotionally and physically at the end stages of life. He ensured that Palliative care was set up in the community (which, unfortunately, was not required in the end). He treated my Dad with the respect and dignity he deserved and enabled his wishes to be at home when he passed, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
Donations at the funeral totalled £1250 which has been given to Sherwood Forest Hospitals Oncology Fund in recognition of the excellent care my Dad received. Thank you, Ryan; your dedication and passion for your job are evident, and you deserve this nomination for exceptional service.
