Ryan started working on CSU as a new grad and from day one has been a valuable asset to the team. He is always willing to jump in and help anyone in need. Currently we have a patient on the unit who is receiving end of life care and Ryan has become a primary nurse to the patient. Even though he is still in his first year with CHOA, he was automatically thought of when trying to pair nurses with this patent. Both of the patient's brothers are stationed in California while in the military and were able to get emergency leave to come and be with the patient. Recognizing the difficulties that the brothers were facing regarding housing and transportation added on to the stresses of watching their brother near the end of his life, Ryan went above and beyond one evening after taking care of the patient when he ordered and paid for Chinese food to be delivered to the family so they would not have to leave the patient's bedside or go eat in the cafeteria. He also went to the store and bought lemonade for the family and brought it back to them after his shift was over.
I am honored to work with Ryan and truly believe that knowing him will make me not only a better nurse, but a better person. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of a DAISY Award than Ryan Sullivan.
