Samantha takes being a nurse with pride. There are many stories but the one that sticks out is when we had a patient here getting chemo. Chemo was very rough for her and her family. During all the chemo, Samantha made it a point to bring her things and talk with her. On her last day of chemo (which is huge anyway), Samantha had recruited the unit to bring items to make her a basket that was to celebrate no more chemo. The basket was filled to the brim and beautiful. When the last of the chemo ran through the line, Samantha excused herself and came to the staff and asked us to follow her, basket in hand. We knocked and entered the patient's room. We had silly string poppers and the patient and patient's husband had tears in their eyes. Even though this patient was battling cancer, fevers, and sickness, Samantha made it a point to help her smile and focus on the good.
