Sam continued to monitor closely and advocate for more interventions. She took complete accountability for the care of my wife and baby, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
It only took one encounter with Sam Sullivan to know that she is a DAISY Nurse.
Recently, my pregnant wife, son, and I were in a car accident. We took my wife to the hospital as a “just to be safe” measure, and Sam was the L&D triage nurse who saved both my wife and daughter.
As soon as we arrived, Sam treated us with so much respect and genuine care. She explained the triage process, educated us on her assessments, and reassured us that she was paying attention. Friendly conversations were an added bonus. It was clear through her conversations and demeanor that she possesses great compassion for others.
When Sam noticed a change in our baby’s status, she quickly and calmly responded, seeking help from other nurses and the doctor. She communicated clearly and directly but also checked in to see how we were, making a scary situation feel somewhat safer. When the responding doctor didn’t agree with her concerns, she continued to monitor closely and advocate for more interventions. She took complete accountability for the care of my wife and baby, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
After we notified our OB of the situation, Sam professionally communicated her concerns. Our OB immediately came to assess, having the same concerns as Sam. An urgent cesarean section was performed to deliver our baby girl. Sam stayed past her shift end and was there to check on me while I waited in the hall, assist in the delivery, and, of course, congratulate us on our new baby girl. During the surgery, a placental abruption was noted, which, left untreated, would have caused serious complications and possibly the death of two people I love dearly.
Sam Sullivan is the reason why I didn’t have to endure that nightmare. I was able to go home with a healthy and complete family thanks to her excellent nursing care. We will never be able to thank her enough for that gift.
