This would not have been possible had Professor Samour not encouraged us to collaborate care and build positive relationships.
Professor Samour is an excellent nursing instructor. I had the pleasure of learning from him last semester (Spring 2021) in Nursing 2. Professor Samour consistently fostered a positive learning environment and encouraged all of his students to reach their full potential.
One story that comes to mind immediately is from last semester when I was on clinical, Professor Samour was handing out morning assignments as he looked over at me and told me that I was going to be taking care of a patient who had a tracheostomy. Professor Samour knew that this patient was going to need care more involved than what I was used to but also knew that I was up to the challenge. During my clinical that day, I was able to learn a lot from my patient, as the patient had a trach for over 10 years. This is just one example of how Professor Samour was able to get us to reach our full potential and how he encouraged us to learn in the clinical setting.
Another example of how Professor Samour was able to build collaborative relationships with students was again on our unit last semester. One of my classmates was taking care of a patient who did not speak English. Professor Samour frequently encouraged us to work together as a group and to help each other out. Knowing that my classmate's patient was not English speaking and Indian; I asked my classmate if the patient spoke Hindi, which I was familiar with myself. In the end, I was able to effectively communicate with the patient and was able to answer the patient's questions. Not only did I help my fellow classmate but the nurse from the unit was also very thankful that I stepped up and was able to help. This would not have been possible had Professor Samour not encouraged us to collaborate care and build positive relationships.
Lastly, another story that highlights Professor Samour’ s excellent teaching and collaborative methods regarding a medication administration. My patient was supposed to be getting Metoprolol but the patient's BP was not in the parameters for the medication. Professor Samour confirmed with the provider regarding the medication and the Doctor gave the go-ahead for the administration. Professor Samour was then later able to explain to us the rationale that the doctor had told him regarding the medication administration. Professor Samour pointed out to us that in our career as nurses, we may encounter similar situations and he was able to demonstrate for us how we could possibly handle these situations and how we can learn from them. Overall, Professor Samour was an excellent resource for us; he was always leading by example and was constantly encouraging us.
