Sandy is the most wonderful, compassionate, thoughtful and caring nurse I have ever come in contact with.
My husband was a patient on floor 1 Hussey for one week. He had pneumonia, respiratory infection, and Parkinson’s disease and basically was incoherent. The first day I met Sandy I was grateful for the type of nurse she was—I immediately knew he was in good hands. Sandy is the most wonderful, compassionate, thoughtful, and caring nurse I have ever come in contact with. It was a difficult, scary situation to try to prepare yourself knowing your husband/father (the one you love) was nearing the end of his life. Sandy was always there to comfort me as well as our daughter and son. Sandy gives tirelessly of her time and talent without neglecting any of her patients. She answers all of your questions (and I had many at the time), concerns, and comforts you at the same time. She was never abrupt, impatient, or frustrated that maybe you asked that same question before but didn’t understand and asked again. Her biggest concern was that my husband was comfortable and getting everything he needed and that we were also okay. If there was ever a nurse dedicated to her patients and her profession, Sandy is that nurse and deserves this recognition of the DAISY Award. My husband was 91 years of age and passed away peacefully. If he had been of sound mind and able to communicate, he would have loved Sandy as much as we did.
Note: This is Sandy's second DAISY Award!
