An ER Doctor at Augusta Health called me at midnight 2 weeks ago telling me I should come immediately as my mother was admitted to the emergency room with severe breathing problems. After a 2 hour drive, I arrived as my mom was being admitted to the ICU. She ended up being put on a ventilator in the early hours of the morning.
Sara was my mom's attending nurse for 3 of the 4 days she was in the ICU and my family and I are so thankful! The level of care she provided was outstanding. She patiently answered all of our questions (for days) and always took the extra time to explain medications she was administering or procedures that needed to be done. She made the effort to learn our names and kept us informed and updated on my mom's health. Even though my mom was sedated, Sara explained to her what she was doing before giving medication, drawing blood, or simply moving her in the bed. But beyond simply doing her job well, Sara had an amazing attitude- she always had a smile and a positive attitude, even when things got a little crazy in the ICU. The compassion and caring she showed for my mom (and my family) made all the difference in a very scary situation with an uncertain outcome.
