Shannon effortlessly manages to put these patients at ease, makes them feel heard and listened to, and not spoken to like they don't understand, and when they don't, she explains to them in a way in which they can.
Nurses often get nominated because they have done some extraordinary acts of kindness and care for their patients. However, there are nurses who work in areas of the hospital where patients often do not remember or even know their names because of the situation of their illness. These nurses are often overlooked for the care they offer. Shannon Goldman is one of those nurses.
I have watched her for the better part of 2 years provide extraordinary care, to such a level that it simply appears ordinary, especially when held against the bar that she sets for herself. She greets each workday as a positive example for staff. Every patient interaction, she brings smiles, laughter, and kindness to a level that disarms the patients who are frustrated by being stuck yet again for an IV start or scared that the results of their procedure are going to deliver them a diagnosis they don't feel they can deal with. Shannon effortlessly manages to put these patients at ease, makes them feel heard and listened to, and not spoken to like they don't understand, and when they don't, she explains to them in a way in which they can.
Shannon is a DAISY Nurse not for one single act but because of the totality of the quality, consistency, and continued unwavering service to all IU Health patients that are blessed to be under her care.
