Shannon advocated for her patient and her patient ultimately ended up being admitted for observation overnight.
Shannon works in the Day Surgery Department in the Women and Children's Hospital and took care of a 79-year-old woman who had a procedure done earlier in the morning. When Shannon received this patient, she was requiring additional oxygen. After multiple room air challenges during a five-hour period, the patient failed to remain stable on room air. Shannon contacted the physician, anesthesia team, nurse manager, and charge nurse and voiced her concerns about her patient. Shannon advocated for her patient and her patient ultimately ended up being admitted for observation overnight. I feel like Shannon deserves to be recognized for advocating for her patient, and not to discharge her home in an unstable condition. Shannon shows compassion and is willing to go above and beyond for every single patient she cares for.
