I am currently fighting stage 3 pancreatic cancer and receive chemotherapy bi-weekly at the AGH Cancer Institute. My chemotherapy requires that I wear a pump for 48 hours after the session has ended. After my most recent sitting, while sleeping at home on Saturday night/early Sunday morning, I somehow disengaged the needle, as it was no longer attached to my port. To my horror, the pump was spilling the chemo onto the shirt of my pajamas instead of in my body. Needless to say, I panicked! At approximately 8 am, I called 412-DOCTORS and was told to go immediately to the emergency room. After arriving at the Forbes ER, I was sent up to the Oncology floor where someone calmed me down, gave me warm blankets, held my hand, and soothingly talked to me while Stephanie flawlessly re-accessed my port. Please don't tell my nurses at AGH, but I didn't even feel a pinch as Stephanie went to work. I cannot tell you how comforting it was knowing that I was in more than capable hands. Maybe Stephanie will sit with me on the 'green couch' as I share my success story.
