My mom has infusion treatments every 3 weeks now and prior to that we visited regularly to begin the initial treatment of oral chemotherapy. Of course, this included all associated trainings, checkups, and general challenges. Therefore, my Mom and I have frequent visits to this clinic. Ms. Stevie Owen became a bright reassurance, caring, and welcoming feature of our visits from the get-go. In fact, her connections with my Mom became such a comfort that my Mom would miss her positive influence if we had a visit without seeing Ms. Owen. Stevie has a true gift of communicating with people when they are in distress or uncomfortable. She is authentic in her empathy and generous of her time and spirit. She is a skilled communicator who makes eye contact, speaks clearly enough for her to hear (even when wearing a mask), and takes the time to listen to the response with genuine interest. She cares, and it makes an incredible difference during the sometimes-harrowing oncology visits. Nursing is a true calling, and we are fortunate that Ms. Owen heeded that call to this profession.

Stevie goes above and beyond the job responsibility to try and touch base with us each visit. This means the world to my mom because it demonstrates that in this increasingly busy, harried complex clinical world of cancer, Stevie cares about her. Stevie values her feelings and experiences. I cannot say enough positive things about this employee. Stevie does not just go through the motions of her job; she is the real deal - a caring care­giver. Stevie has integrity, keen emotional intelligence, and a rare kind heart. She is truly deserving of this award and so much more.
