Sun is a shining example of consistent professionalism that exceeds our cultural beliefs. She joined our department shortly after coming to the U.S. from Korea where she was an RN, still working on her English language skills, she wanted to join our unit and was willing to start as a tech as she was going to school to improve her English. She was hired as a tech and within a short few months advanced into the RN role. She has been a constant inspiration to her peers, in her approach to caring for her patients, colleagues, families, and her physician colleagues over the past 10 years. She advanced her knowledge and became certified in GI nursing. She is continually recognized by patients and their families for her compassionate care and willingness to do more to meet their needs and the needs of our department. The physicians hold her in the highest regards in her efficient and strong skilled assistance with procedures.
Sun is soft-spoken and supports her peers in the most humble way and always is happy to celebrate their life's milestones and support them during hard times. She is exceptionally skilled in placing IVs and is known as the vein whisperer and is always being asked to assist by patients, nurses, and anesthesia. Sun is very proud to work at Inova Alexandria Hospital and shows it through her actions everyday. Sun over the years has taken on the responsibility to assist the Nurse Manager with inventory management and works well with vendors and Materials Management to ensure that the department always has their supplies ready for the patients and physicians. We are so fortunate to have Sun as a friend and exceptional colleague.
