On February 11th, at age 80, my dad had just had hip replacement surgery at Community and was being brought up from post-op to the 6th floor. I was waiting for my dad in the room and stepped out while they were maneuvering the gurney in the room. When they were transitioning him from the gurney to the bed, he had some type of seizure (fainting spell) and was unresponsive to the nurses and shivering. The attending nurses called for a "Code Blue" and sirens and nurses and doctors came running to his room. I was standing outside his room and was so scared at that point and truly thought he wasn't going to make it. The doctors worked on him for about 10 minutes. Taia saw me there and saw that I was upset and came over to me and comforted me and was telling me that everyone he needed was there with him at that point and told me, from what she was seeing, what they were doing for him. It all turned out okay and they were able to stabilize my dad. They did transfer him to the ICU for that night for observation. He's home now and doing well. It was just a nice thing that she did for me on that night and I really appreciated it. All the nurses that we had contact with throughout my dad's stay were really great (6th floor - Ortho and the ICU). They have my gratitude and appreciation for the great care my dad received during his stay.
