For a newly diagnosed cancer patient just starting chemo, it is very scary. My first encounter was with Taylor. She helped me calm down and explained everything to me and my husband. She not only took care of me for 6 months but also my husband. On the first visit I asked could I have her as my RN for each treatment? She did her best to make this happen. She always took her time with me. She made me feel like I was her only patient. Even though I know she had more patients waiting for her.
It said to share my story of why she is extraordinary. There are so many. She always has a smile for you. She is very detailed. She caught on my second round of chemo that I had not done my counseling for that drug. And made sure it was done before I started the chemo. She knew that my blood work would be abnormal a lot of the time. She always kept an eye out for my blood results in case I need extra meds. So that I could get them during chemo and not have to stay longer. As I had a 1-hour drive one way. She makes you feel like you are visiting a friend not having chemo treatment.
