Tess displays compassion in everything that she does, her advocacy for patient safety is second to none and whilst our patients often praise her for going above and beyond within her role she carries herself with humility and is humble when this is mentioned.
Tess leads the Anti coagulation, DVT and VTE teams within Kettering General Hospital. The team is relatively small but spans the care of both inpatient and outpatients. Tess displays the highest respect for both her staff and patients, often arranging to offer patient support in other locations such as Nene Park Clinic when she is on her day off, working from home, and taking time out on a daily basis to be visual and accessible to the staff that works within the team. On occasion, this has meant staff needing to contact her out of hours, and she always answers and supports in the best way that she can. Tess displays compassion in everything that she does, her advocacy for patient safety is second to none and whilst our patients often praise her for going above and beyond within her role she carries herself with humility and is humble when this is mentioned. Her drive for patients to be at the forefront of everything we are within the team has been recognised at a national level after being commended in 2 categories at the Thrombosis UK Awards, for both patient experience and quality improvement. She strives to ensure each patient as an individual is cared for with a tailor-made plan that fits them and their lifestyle, e.g., when working within anti-coagulation and dosing warfarin, she is constantly considering if there is a more appropriate medicine regime than the patient would benefit from to make it easier for them to take control and manage their lifelong condition. Tess models and advocates the trust's standards and values and visions of what our workforce should be to ensure that we are the very best we can be day to day. Our ability to provide such a comprehensive service for the community comes from her vision of high-quality care that all of our patients deserve, the introduction of an MDT service to discuss all patients that are referred to the service has led to close relationships with patients who have lifelong requirements for anti-coagulation as well as those with VTE events who require not only physical support but emotional and mental health wellbeing support. Tess is always reaching to improve the service, more recently she had worked collaboratively at a national level to develop the Thrombosis UK 'Lets Talk Clots' App, the link to this is now on our trust discharge letters to enable patients to access support advice and guidance more easily. Her vision for anti-coagulation and VTE spans above, and beyond her day-to-day job role, new innovation such as digitization of risk assessments, the specialist software that has been introduced, and other initiatives is demonstrated in the reduction of potentially preventable hospital-acquired thromboses and the dramatic improvement in the quality and attention to detail that is evident for our inpatients. This is clear to see through the audit and triangulation of information alone that is collated on a monthly basis. Her ability to visualise what needs to be done, how to do it and getting people on board is how she makes things happen, she always possesses a can-do positive attitude with the time and space for staff and patients. Tess really does truly deserve to be recognised for all that she attempts and achieves, she is not afraid to try something new, speak up on behalf of her service or challenge the status quo. Always done with a professional attitude and with the best interests of her patients and staff at the forefront of her mind. Tess puts all other above herself whether she is in or out of her uniform, she is one of a kind and over the past 23 years of NHS service I haven't met or had the privilege of working for anyone quite like her. Unique is a word I would choose to describe Tess, a true leader who will stop at nothing to get the best for those she is caring for.
