Each and every time we called he was there. He was the one we counted on until her very last breath.
In June of 2022, my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer in her uterus. It was a rare cancer that was known to spread very fast. She had surgery in August to try to get the cancer removed. After that, it was a roller coaster. She was in the hospital for 2 1/2 months if not longer.
Fast forward to this week, we found out that chemo could no longer cure her cancer. She was then decided to be put on hospice. She was not stable enough to be moved so she was on inpatient hospice. We had met a number of nurses and doctors who were all very kind and helpful but the one nurse to truly stand out was Thomas Casey. He was her day nurse for the time she was on hospice. I could try to put into words how lucky we felt to of had such a caring informative genuine gentle amazing nurse but that would not do him justice. Nothing we could do would ever be enough to thank Thomas for the care he provided. He answered each and every question we had with honesty sometimes more than once. He came in every 45 minutes or so just to check-in. Not only was he checking on his patient he was checking on us as well. He brought us countless numbers of blankets pillows snacks drinks and so much more. He laughed with us. He overwhelmed us with compassion. He talked to her each and every time he would do anything whether it be him giving her medicine or moving her head to make her comfortable. He wanted her to know what he was doing even when she was asleep from all of the medications. He would come in to check her breathing and he would tell us exactly what he was looking for what he did see and what it meant. The care from Thomas was a care that is just indescribable. He worked tirelessly to make her as comfortable as possible and he made sure to make us aware that she was in no pain regardless of any noise or movement she made. Each and every time we called he was there. He was the one we counted on until her very last breath. Like I said it wouldn't do him the justice to put it into words. With every bone in my body, I recommend Thomas Casey for this award. For the efforts and time and care he provided for her and the rest of our family he is a true DAISY Nurse. He deserves more than I can give.
