Inova Mount Vernon Hospital presented the DAISY Award to Tracy Woodward, RN in the Joint Replacement Unit. Tracy is the embodiment of a compassionate caregiver. Her Manager receives compliments about Tracy from patients and their families on a regular basis. She has been nominated several times by these individuals and her co-workers for making ‘A World of Difference.’ Despite currently being in the role of Total Joint Care Coordinator, she is first in the room for a rapid response, is frequently helping patients to the bathroom, or answering their questions. Her smile is always warm and friendly, and her contact with the patients consistently shows her caring attitude. She consistently takes the extra time and effort needed to explain discharge plans to patients and families to ensure the best possible outcomes for these individuals.
Not only does Tracy take great strides in caring for our patients here at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, but she has also joined several mission trips to various locations such as Guatemala and Nicaragua to care for patients undergoing total joint replacements. As a member of the Operation Walk-Virginia team, Tracy has donated her personal time and work vacation time to assist the team to perform joint replacements for patients who would otherwise not receive this life changing treatment. Tracy played a lead role in this year’s mission to Guatemala in part due to her ‘never rest attitude’ and also in part due to her familiarity with the medications and needs of total joint replacement patients. However, throughout the entire year, Tracy was the first to volunteer with fund raisers as well as basic tasks as data input and letter writing. The smiles of all patients are precious, but seeing the smiles of the patients in Guatemala - whose need was so very great – was exceptionally special.
She also donates her time to help the team right here at Mount Vernon Hospital as each year Operation Walk-Virginia, in conjunction with Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, provides up to 10 patients, who do not have health insurance, with hip and knee replacements as well as durable medical equipment and home care.
