Because of various snafus in the ER and elsewhere, I was unable to get any medication for the extreme restlessness I experienced (as a side effect of the drugs given to me for my kidney stone treatment). It was Nurse Cassidy who had to deliver the news that the doctor who could order the drugs had already left for the day. However, Nurse Cassidy then spent the next 10-15 minutes talking me through the problem, suggesting remedies, reframing my thoughts about the issue. I was moved by her evident compassion and concern. Sometimes health care can seem like a cold experience but Nurse Cassidy's warmth, helpfulness, and empathy were a testament to the human touch that is so important to medical care. I truly appreciate her concern and her evident desire to improve patient care.
