As a team member Troy is a joy to work with, always ready to help in any way and to share his exceptional clinical insights and skills. Troy has extensive experience in many fields of nursing which he is able to apply to the varied population of patient who arrive in the ED.
One of Troy's most inspiring clinical experiences was when he was working in a hospital with no perinatal services. On one particular evening he was working in the ED, a car pulled up to the ambulance entrance with a mother in the final stages of labor. Troy delivered the baby, directed the other staff to find the never used infant warmer and created the environment that resulted in both patient's doing very well. The exceptional part of this story is Troy's calm under fire and his ability to direct his team through this unusual and stressful situation.
Another event that demonstrates troy's professionalism and his concern for patient dignity involved a diabetic man who was complaining of foot pain. When shoes and socks were removed, the patient's feet were covered with maggots. Tory remained focused on the patient, explained to the patient that his feet were in very bad condition and began providing cleaning and care to the patient's feet. Troy did so without judgment, dismay, or trepidation and with sensitivity, care and concern. Always treating the patient with respect and dignity.
Troy is a tall, somewhat formidable looking man and it is his amazing nursing skills that put patients at ease and allow him to form a trusting relationship with his patients, especially the elderly female patients. Troy was caring for an elderly female patient whose chief complaint was "a female problem." Through his quiet explanations and delicate handling, the patient was comfortable throughout her stay and received the care and treatment she needed. He took the time to explain the tests and exams, how long they would take, the treatment plan and her progress. Troy's care and concern should be a part of all nursing care and this is an example of how in all he does, he is a role model for professional nursing.
Through his role modeling of excellent patient care, consistent standard of practice, expert skills and interactions with his team of nurses and providers Troy is a leader. Troy enhances the image of professional nursing through his direct care of patients and their families. He is highly respected by his peers and co-workers and provides and inspiration for other RNs.
