I am honored to nominate the exceptional team comprising the Emergency Department (ED), Pharmacy, Translation and Radiology staff for the DAISY Team Award in recognition of their outstanding collaboration and insightful problem-solving during a critical situation. The team’s response to an unresponsive patient demonstrated exemplary professionalism, where they were able to work cohesively to focus on a comprehensive assessment. Their collective critical thinking and assertive actions played a pivotal role in reviving and stabilizing the patient, necessitating ALS transport to a higher echelon of care. The ED staff's (LT Kahler, LT Knapp, LT Marsh, LCDR Will Selde, HM1 Dylan Fralick, HM2 Austin Gonzales, HM3 John Baguio, HM3 Hailey Moore, HN Yasmine Gaona, HM3 Leon Silva, HN Alisha Legear) dedication was evident in securing crucial access for administering life-saving medications, coupled with their vigilant care and continuous assessment, reflected an unwavering commitment to excellence.
The team’s proficient use of closed-loop communication, integrating TeamSTEPPS and IPASS communication, underscored their relentless dedication to seamless teamwork. This commitment was extended seamlessly from the on-site emergency care provided by the EMT at the barracks and the swift transportation of the patient back to the hospital by the EVO driver. The pharmacy staff (LCDR Kaczmarek and HM3 Mitchell) swiftly retrieve medication and collaborate with the provider and nursing staff, demonstrating their vital role in on-scene pharmaceutical management. Their ability to think through scenarios in real-time contributed significantly to the patient’s overall care.
The Radiology techs (HM3 Amarillo and CIV Volunteer Amber Lenhard) played an instrumental role in obtaining vital CT imaging promptly, aiding in determining the cause of the patient’s presentation. Their efficiency and teamwork underscored the importance of diagnostic imaging in critical situations.
The Translation team (LT Lillian Russel and HM2 Anthony Hernandez) provided a crucial language bridge, ensuring seamless communication and the transfer of the patient to the appropriate facility within the Spanish Network. Coordinating care across diverse interdisciplinary teams can be challenging but HM2 demonstrated exceptional dedication by collecting and efficiently communicating vital and pertinent information, ensuring the patient’s needs were met with precision and empathy.
This extraordinary collaboration among the ED, Pharmacy, Radiology and Translation staff reflects the highest standards of patient care and interdisciplinary cooperation. I wholeheartedly recommend this team for the DAISY Team Award, as their collective efforts and commitment to excellence truly embody the spirit of this prestigious recognition.
