Throughout the shift, Whitney went above and beyond to ensure patients under her care were adequately educated on what to expect and on how to properly care independently for themselves and their babies upon discharge.
I had the special honor of shadowing nurse Whitney as an RN student from Arizona College of Nursing. Nurse Whitney was exceptional. Not only was she personable, genuine, as beautiful as she was kind, she also was an outstanding patient advocate. Throughout the shift, Whitney went above and beyond to ensure patients under her care were adequately educated on what to expect and on how to properly care independently for themselves and their babies upon discharge. Nurse Whitney had a special touch in putting all of her patients at ease and connecting with them in a relatable yet professional manner. This attentive care Whitney provided also extended into the in-depth educational experience I received where on the unit I was privileged to follow her throughout her process. Whitney was an open book. I must have asked her hundreds of questions throughout my 12-hour shift with her and not one question was left unanswered. She even had the graciousness to invite me to accompany her as she had her lunch (just in case I had any additional inquires and wanted to talk more privately). I greatly appreciated her vast knowledge on an array of obstetric and maternal health and infant care too, plus I had taken pages full of notes on my clipboard I brought along with me. Whitney was also the model professional to her co-workers and peers on the unit, behaving and communicating with gentleness and positivity. Nurse Whitney is a true gem!
