The health difficulties I was experiencing when admitted to the emergency room made the 1st 24 hours of my three-day stay at McLaren "hectic" to say the least. Many different employees from a myriad of different departments helped me with their technical abilities and genuine concern for my comfort and welfare.
During the evening after my wife left, the decision was made to move me into another room located on a different floor (CVU). As Bill and the rest of the staff settled me into the new room, I was beginning to think about the next morning with my wife's arrival. Since I did not have my cell phone with me to explain the change, my concern was having her enter the old room and I wasn't there. Once all the medical requirements had been completed with me moving into CVU, I explained the situation to Bill. Without any hesitation, he immediately took out his phone and said, "We can take care of that right now". My wife was grateful and my stress level went to zero. That one act of kindness made a big difference for me.
For the rest of my three-day stay I was able to observe Bill's technical skill and proficiency as a nurse. Along with this it was apparent he understood that nursing involves more than just the technical, it involves the compassion shown to your patients. For this, I'm so grateful.
Lastly, it's important for me to mention my thanks to the entire nursing staff and the patient care technicians. The care and professionalism of every one were outstanding. All of you are truly remarkable.
