This is a team nomination that includes many of the staff members of the 4 West Cardiac Medical Unit, the AODs from the Nursing Administration Team and many others. The entire hospital was abuzz with the word that a wedding was in the works. One of our patients on the Cardiac Medical Unit told his nurse that his daughter was due to be married but that she had postponed the wedding due to his illness. He was worried that he would not live long enough to walk his daughter down the aisle, and asked whether they could have a small wedding in the room.

The RN, Sarah Dowell, was moved to reach out to the rest of the team to make something happen for this family. With help with the AODs, Maxine and Mike, the leadership team on 4West, the Nursing Administration team, Food and Nutrition team members and Chaplain services, the team put together a full wedding in our chapel complete with a decorated reception with refreshments in one of our conference rooms. The news of this event spread to all the units, and every single team member was engaged and wanted to be involved in helping this happy event happen.

Rose Maston, our nightshift Assistant Nurse Manager, brought in food for the family, and Sarah Dowell and Melanie Faigley brought in the decorations and decorated the conference room. Team members throughout the hospital showed up at the chapel to make sure that this event was well attended. The epitome of what it is to be a nurse, to work for BayCare was displayed in the effort and compassion that was put forward to ensure this family had a great wedding experience...the core desire to bring joy into the lives of even those who are experiencing extreme health difficulties was on full display.

These team members define Nursing and define what it is to be BayCare.
