The ICU team is special in so many ways. Whenever a patient gets to the unit, you will see all the available nurses at the bedside right away, helping to admit the patient to minimize any delays. All the nurses have been highly trained and understand their assignments very well since they are dealing with critically ill patients. You will see nurses comfort family members along with the patient during their most vulnerable times. The camaraderie and collegiality among these nurses are a prime example of what the work environment should look like in any setting.

Our ICU nurses are also great team players when it comes to working with the resident staff and the physicians. They are always prompt to follow up on critical labs and imaging, do frequent assessments on all the patients, and keep us updated. I remember specific patient cases where, at some point, I felt like the whole ICU was there supporting me and my team. Our charge nurses always step in to provide as much help as possible. The ICU rotations at white Memorial have been one of the cornerstones of all my training. Outside of having amazing and very intelligent colleagues, I’ve also earned lifelong friends. I’m very thankful to have been given the opportunity to write this nomination for our ICU team both days and nights and acknowledge their amazing work and the number of lives they change and save every day.
