She explained what could and probably would happen if he were to leave at that moment, and when he continued to argue with her, she just continued to talk with him, not condescending or angry or frustrated, just reassuring and empathetic.
My husband came into the ER with a severe case of the flu (Influenza A) and was quickly admitted to a room until his release on Sunday evening. My husband can be difficult as he is used to being the one taking care of everyone else. The grace and patience Abbie showed him was above comprehension to me. There were times he was being very moody and talking about leaving AMA. The tone, demeanor, patience, and time from Abbie made a huge difference. She explained what could and probably would happen if he were to leave at that moment, and when he continued to argue with her, she just continued to talk with him, not condescending or angry or frustrated, just reassuring and empathetic.
But the real test came Sunday when we were told my husband would be able to go home that morning and then that afternoon just before lunch we were told he may not go home due to an insurance issue and Abbie again came in and talked with my husband let him vent, sympathized with him, and calmed him down enough to agree to stay one more night if that's what needed to happen.
In my opinion, Abbie's professionalism, friendly, and caring personality are unmatched. She is a true gem in her field. She makes you feel so much more than a patient, like you are one of her friends or family members.
We want to give a huge shout-out to Abbie and give our heartfelt thank you for everything she did for us, even though to her, it was a couple of days, but for my husband, it was an eternity. You are an essential asset to TG. May you always get the recognition you deserve.
