Abby received several nominations from her co-workers:
Abby is a great team leader, as a charge nurse and an excellent team player, professional, and very kind. She is an excellent preceptor and strives to make sure that new employees understand everything they are being taught and always helps one understand answers to any questions. She is always teaching staff, patients, families, students, and anyone who comes to our unit. She appears to do this with little effort because she always has a positive and helpful attitude. She is compassionate and provides wonderful patient care. She leads by example, has a great work ethic.Abby has great communication skills to assist the patients to understand why the treatment is needed. She knows just how to explain things to our patients, and she answers all of their questions. I have also observed her with patients' family members and this nurse is exceptional at giving them attention. Both the patients and coworkers enjoy being around this nurse.Abby takes the time to visit with both the patients and their family members. I have watched her countless times advocate for patients and take her time talking and meeting their emotional needs by paying close attention. In one instance Abby was the charge nurse during the day and she was able to uphold a lot of patience and portrayed leadership when she had to constantly redirect and explain policies to a patient that needed a lot of attention. Despite having to charge on the floor that day, she was precepting and taking care of other patients, but took time out of her busy day to ensure that the patient understood the procedure and felt comfortable and safe.Abby shows great leadership every time she works. She is a charge nurse that truly takes 'problems off the other people's shoulder'. I clearly remember when I started, this nurse's expertise when a patient arrived on our floor from the mental health ED. The patient was manic and agitated. Abby remained calm and assisted the patient to calm down with her words, behavior, medication, and direction. Her quick assessment and actions resulted in a calm and cooperative patient with a very relieved spouse. I was very impressed and have witnessed this many times since. The nurse is definitely talented and an expert in her field as a nurse.Abby is a great nurse, and I would completely trust her to take care of my loved one.Inside and out, this nurse is what a great nurse is!!
