Abby Fabroquez is one of the strongest, most compassionate nurses I know. I have been in this unit for several years. Since day one, Abby has stuck out as “the nurse that just knows everything”. When I was applying to nursing schools, Abby was there to tell me how sure she was I’d get in, even though I had significant doubts, and when I was struggling to balance nursing school with work and life, Abby was there to share a kind word of encouragement- even if she had the busiest assignment on the unit. Recently, I was admitting a patient from the Emergency Department with a central line infection, and the only reason I felt safe and competent was because I knew Abby was my charge. She was there every step of the way, helping me with my admission and walking me through how to hang TPN and lipids step-by-step, even though it was a really busy night on the floor, and she had several other tasks to do. At the end of her shift, she hugged me and said how proud she was of me. I left the shift feeling tired but super accomplished. And that’s what Abby does- she lifts up everyone on her team so that we can all be stronger together. Abby is super passionate about safety, mentoring new grads, and empowering the team to provide the best, safest care to our patients. That was just a single example of how Abby helped me grow as a nurse, there are countless other times. I probably wouldn’t have made it through nursing school, let alone that shift, without Abby. She is a gifted teacher and truly embodies what it means to be a great nurse, I lost count of how many times she walks in a room with me to do a double check or to assist and our patients light up and at the sight of her and say, “Hi, Abby!” or “Yay, Abby!” Did I mention our patients and families love her? Thank you, Abby, for all you do. You are a hero to so many.
