When she walked into the room first thing in the morning, our daughter lit up! That meant a lot to us as her parents. She felt like she could be her goofy self around her and they were able to share some laughs and sarcasm together.
Our daughter had an unexpected appendectomy and was then admitted to inpatient the next day. We were all very nervous as neither of our children have had to have admission to a hospital following a surgery. Our daughter (the patient) was very nervous as well, she didn't know what to expect.

When "nurse" Abby G walked into the room and started to engage with our daughter, you could immediately see the warmth in her eyes. Our daughter was able to open up with her..as crappy as she felt, show a little of her personality to Abby. Abby was able to instantly connect with our daughter and us as well. She was so generous and treated us like we mattered and not just another patient coming through. She was so generous and gentle with all of her duties and tasks she needed to complete. She really went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. Our daughter felt right at home. She explained everything she was doing on a level our daughter could understand and that made our daughter feel less nervous. When she first came into our room she wrote her name and the time she will be clocking out on the white board along with goals that her and our daughter set for the day. She made it fun and kept things interesting so our daughter could accomplish milestones on the road to recovery. Our daughter started to count down the hours until shift change, she was bummed that Abby wouldn't be back until the morning.

Our daughter had a really rough night after she left, she became sick at about 2 am and was in pain (expected with recovery). When she woke up she was so excited that Abby would be back. When she walked into the room first thing in the morning, our daughter lit up! That meant a lot to us as her parents. She felt like she could be her goofy self around her and they were able to share some laughs and sarcasm together.

I know Children's Hospital has wonderful nurses; we had a few wonderful ones, but Abby truly got us through this experience! I don't think our daughter would have completed half of the milestones if it wasn't for the relationship she built with Abby. We were so so grateful to have her as our nurse! Anyone that she cares for is so lucky! She deserves recognition for going above and beyond for her patients! Children's is so lucky to have her!
