I will say that Adriana truly showed me a nurse who really cared for others, as she would care for those she loves.
I was a patient on your unit with COVID and was monitored because my oxygen saturation was so low. It was a frighting thing not to have anyone in my room, most of all, my husband. It was also a little lonely and depressing. But I wanted you to know that during the time I was there I had some really great care from many of the nurses as well as the nurse techs/CNAs. I got up to the unit late in the evening, well after my bedtime, and was left to sleep in the room, which I did until there was a quiet knock by someone to get vital signs and hang some medication via IV. It seemed like forever when the night shift nurse, Adriana came into my room to introduce herself to me. She looked around and asked if I wanted to wash up and get a new gown. I was so happy to hear that…I was so thrilled to know that I could finally brush my teeth and wash my face. While I tended to myself, she changed my linen. I was so happy to have a new me and a new bed. She spent some time with me just chatting while she was assessing me, which was really nice. That to me was what a nurse is to do, and I am quite picky about nurses and the role they have, as a Professor of Nursing since 2003. I will say that Adriana truly showed me a nurse who really cared for others, as she would care for those she loves. Throughout the night and into the morning, she checked on me quietly and she said “goodbye” before she left my room. She made my stay, with all my fears and concerns much calmer. I just knew that she would come if I hit the call bell and come herself. Perhaps this is something of an expectation on the unit, but not all nurses are alike, and as critical, as I was, Adriana shined in my eyes. I even spoke to my husband about her, and he was pleased I had such a caring nurse. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
