Afton was nominated by the parents of a patient, for her care and advocacy during a recent stay. The parents wrote:

Afton was a tremendous help in our daughter's recovery from spinal fusion surgery. She provided encouragement and was sympathetic towards our daughter's pain. During our daughter's most trying moments, Afton was an outstanding advocate for our daughter's comfort, calling in a resident at 3:00 a.m. to assist with pain control when Afton had done all that she could to sooth and treat our daughter. She is kind-hearted and gentle, yet firm when she needs to be, and very patient. When we asked our daughter who her favorite nurse was, she didn't hesitate: AFTON!
