Airra truly exemplifies clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care. I have worked with her for several years and she will go above and beyond what is asked of her.
One day, one of our regular charge nurses had to call off and Airra stepped up to take the charge nurse position for the day. During her day filling in for the charge nurse, she was on every unit helping each and every nurse with anything they needed. Airra was helping with new admissions and discharges. She ensured that the nurses were never overwhelmed with their particular caseload and made sure to check in with each and every nurse working that day. She also helped the BCAs out and was also seen picking out the rounds board when the BCAs were busy. There was a particularly difficult patient who had not bathed in several days due to her paranoia. This patient would yell at staff and was extremely irritable. This particular patient refused to bathe on her own and also refused to shower with the assistance of her assigned nurse but Airra did not let this deter her. She sat with this patient for several minutes, built a rapport with her and patient agreed to finally take a shower. Airra spent time with this patient and assisted her during her shower. When the patient stepped out of the bathroom, you could see that the patient was smiling. Even when the patient did not want to shower, Airra knew that this small act of kindness would truly make the patient feel better.
Airra will help any and all patients on the units even when they are not assigned to her. She will also go out of her way to support the team that she works with. She will communicate with doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that her patients are receiving the most excellent patient care. Airra is truly a DAISY Nurse.
