One particular patient was declining on Non-Invasive Ventilation, a full code and had many co-morbidities. The family had been educated on end of life care and comfort. The patient was steadily declining and Alease spent all night in this patient's room trying to keep her from coding by monitoring her vital signs, collaborating with the physician, and making medication adjustments as needed. She kept the patient as comfortable as possible and kept the family informed of any patient changes. At one point the patient had worsened and Alease anticipated that the patient would require intubation; she spent time discussing the procedure with the family and explaining the different options available. The family decided that the patient would not have wanted to be intubated and Alease further explained comfort and palliative care to ease the family's concerns. She is a huge patient advocate and always goes the extra mile to care for her patients. She is a great example of commitment and excellence in nursing.
