Alecia, after your own busy day, you took the time to listen to my concerns and soothe me.
Many of us on the unit were touched by the beautiful spirit of our beloved patient. On this day, I had the privilege of taking care of her. It was the end of my shift, I parked myself in a private area in the back of the unit to wrap up my charting. I was overwhelmed with emotion from the day, worried about the unknown outcome of my patient's condition. Like an angel, you appeared around the corner to check in on me.
After your own busy day, you took the time to listen to my concerns and soothe me. You reminded me of why we became nurses. You reminded me that our presence and compassion are essential in these times. You also reminded me to take care of myself. With my entire heart, thank you for that.
I have had the honor of watching you grow in your nursing profession. I could not be prouder of you and the nurse you have become. I am especially grateful that you cared for that patient in her last days. You advocated having her husband present at the bedside prior to intubation, despite visiting restrictions. You allowed them time that they will never have again. You also worked tirelessly, for hours, to make sure that she was comfortable and stable after intubation. Those that took care of her were deeply affected by her passing. It brings me peace to know that she had such an amazing nurse leading up to that day. You are an inspiration. We are blessed to have you as a part of our team!
