I was very emotional, not only from the news but also from being postpartum. Alex sat beside me, held my hand, and allowed me to ugly cry and explain what I was thinking.
I don’t even know where to begin. Alex was one of the most important team members involved with my son's and my care. We were lucky to have her for both of my postpartum days. She was always kind, sweet, and funny, took her time with us, and was always a great listener. At one point, we had a doctor come in and give us some news that we were not expecting, nor did I believe. After the doctor left, I called Alex, and she immediately came into my room. I was very emotional, not only from the news but also from being postpartum. Alex sat beside me, held my hand, and allowed me to ugly cry and explain what I was thinking. After investigating what the doctor had told us and what the new lab results showed, I found that it contradicted what the doctor had previously told me. She never once dismissed my feelings. Instead, she called the doctor back to have her come down and discuss these results. Turns out it was a false-negative result, but had the team gone ahead and proceeded before all results were back, it could’ve put my newborn son through some unnecessary scary procedures. Alex was truly apologetic even though it had nothing to do with her. I truly felt her heart felt apology. She could’ve easily just listened and carried on with her care, but I felt she went above and beyond for us. As a fellow nurse, I was beyond impressed and extremely grateful for Alex. I want to strive to be a nurse just as good as Alex! I couldn’t have gotten through that rough day without her! We will never forget Alex, the nurse who truly embodies caring for others.
