While triaging a patient, she shared with Alex that her group home manager and apartment complex was making her get rid of her guinea pig. The patient was recently diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer and was no longer allowed to keep her pet. She told Alex that they were making her give the guinea pig to a "kill shelter" which made her very upset. Alex spoke with the patient and decided that she would adopt the guinea pig. Once the patient was discharged, Alex went to the patient's apartment. Alex spoke to the house manager and adopted the guinea pig. Since then, Alex sends the patient updates and photos of the guinea pig so that she knows her former pet is being taken care of and is in good hands.
