Miranda and Alexis did not hesitate to give this patient their every effort and continued CPR while in the elevator and even while being placed on the OR table.
On a night in October, a patient was transferred to CCU after decompensating on the floor prior to surgery. The patient continued to decompensate after her transfer and needed to go for emergent open-heart surgery. While awaiting transfer to the OR, the patient went into cardiac arrest, requiring CPR. Due to the urgent need for the surgery, the patient needed to be transferred to the OR while resuscitation efforts continued. Miranda and Alexis did not hesitate to give this patient their every effort and continued CPR while in the elevator and even while being placed on the OR table. Though the patient had a long and complicated stay in the hospital, she survived. The cardiac surgeon later commended Miranda and Alexis, stating that if it was not for the quality of CPR performed on this patient, the result would have been neurological impairment or a worse outcome. During the patient’s recovery, she was able to meet Miranda and Alexis as per the patient's request. Although Miranda and Alexis only cared for the patient for a short time, their lifesaving care ensured that this patient was able to survive. Our team wants to recognize Miranda and Alexis' quick thinking and action.
