I am writing on behalf of the family of C, who was a cancer patient who passed away at Legacy Mt. Hood on the evening of Tuesday. The purpose of making contact is to make an attempt to recognize the incredible work of C’s nurse, Alexis Barker. We know C is not an easy guy to work with or care for. In fact, he often misleads family and friends into believing he is fine, when in fact, he is not.

It was clear and comforting to us that Alexis saw through C’s BS and clearly understood when C was struggling. Alexis not only did an incredible job caring for C, but she also cared as much for our small, tight family sitting with C during his final day and, in particular, M, C’s 90-year-old companion of the last 30 years. We were all so impressed not only with Alexis’s professional skills but also with her personal care and human intuition of making C comfortable and caring about how we were struggling through C’s final day.

Thank you, Alexis, for providing such great care for C and all of us; you have set the bar very high for your profession in our eyes, and we will always remember. Thank you.
