This nurse took the initiative and developed a plan to get the MRI accomplished with the physician’s agreement. As a result, the MRI was performed, and the path to surgery was accomplished.
On a Thursday evening in May, my brother was admitted to the emergency room for neck injuries from a fall at his home. He arrived at the hospital around 7:30 pm by ambulance transport. Once patient admittance was completed, I accompanied him to the emergency room for his processing & evaluation. The Lead Nurse was very polite with a positive upbeat demeanor who kept me completely informed as to my brother’s vitals & condition. Naturally, their overall concern was to provide the same service & assistance to other patients as well. They kept me totally informed in answering any questions & explaining the progression of steps taken.

As the creator of this memo & caretaker, my background/experience was with Abbott Laboratories, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Thus, the reason, I wanted to be so involved with my brother's processing yet with no interference in the nurse’s work. I have been involved in hospital emergency situations before with family & friends, but I’ve never observed anyone in the healthcare industry perform as well as this nurse did during the twelve-hour shift of clinical activity, care & compassion for the patient. The nurse’s communication with fellow co-workers was exceptional & I believe that the & other staff’s diagnosis & evaluation of the patient’s condition is the beginning of full & complete recovery after surgery.

Our family offers our sincere thanks & appreciation to Self-Regional Healthcare for your wonderful care & for employing such a qualified, personable & effective leader & employee in this nurse & emergency room. As a final, your nomination criteria requests a specific situation that demonstrates how this Team Member made a meaningful difference in the patient’s care, without going into too much detail, I firmly believe their decision-making was relevant when my brother initially refused to have an MRI procedure (as he explained he would not go through the tunnel, because he was claustrophobic). He told the doctors he refused to take an MRI. This nurse took the initiative and developed a plan to get the MRI accomplished with the physician’s agreement. As a result, the MRI was performed, and the path to surgery was accomplished. What a blessing this nurse is for Self-Regional, its patients & families to know they are cared for by an outstanding employee.
