My father was hospitalized during COVID-19 during his treatment for kidney cancer for pneumonia that eventually progressed to a pneumothorax. After a few days, his condition worsened and he was intubated. When I got to the hospital, I met his nurse, Ali. She explained the treatment plan and provided us information regarding his condition. Dad wasn't well. Ali was doing everything that could be done to bring Dad back to health, unfortunately, he lost his battle with cancer. The level of care and professionalism she provides exceeds anything you could write in a mission statement. These qualities can't be taught or purchased. There is no CE course for the care and compassion she provides. Ali took the time to explain things in detail to my step-mom. Even with her busy workload, she made vials called "heartbeat in a bottle". Inside the bottles, there is a copy of Dad's EKG strip before he passed. I will be forever grateful for the care and compassion that Ali showed my dad, my stepmother, and myself.
