My mom was hospitalized at Baptist Collierville for 2 weeks due to a ruptured appendix and complications. When mom was first admitted, Alicia was her nurse. Alicia was effective and efficient to get Mom comfortable in her bed as Mom was in so much pain. Alicia demonstrated care and compassion to her by stating "we will take good care of you". I told Alicia I needed to go home to change and freshen up, but I wanted to be there when the doctor. came to the room to take Mom to surgery. Alicia told me that she would call my cell should she hear news on the surgery, and I left around 1:45 am. Around 5:00 am Alicia called my cell telling me that the doctor should be coming around 6:00 am. I was in the room when the doctor arrived and I was able to ask questions. Despite her being busy with patients, Alicia kept her promise and the fact that I spoke to the doctor before surgery was a critical factor to me.
Two days later, prior to my morning visit to the hospital, Alicia took the time to call my cell to inform me that Mom was moved to a different room due to electrical problems. I appreciate Alicia's information prior to my finding that my mom was not in the same room. Alicia also notified the doctor that Mom's blood pressure was high, resulting in blood pressure medication ordered. Alicia also took the time to explain to me the different medication Mom got and what I needed to be aware of. Although my mom speaks broken English, it did not stop Alicia to respect her and spoke with Mom as she was doing her routine checks in an attempt to defer her pain. Alicia got her a warm blanket and hugged Mom with compassion, while I was not there. Mom told me that Alicia was the best!
