Alissa was gentle and kind throughout the process, especially during this transition. She did what she had to do while giving us our space to say goodbye.
We were in the ICU with our mother. Alissa Florez had come on shift shortly after my mother had crashed and been stabilized. Alissa came out to introduce herself and let us know our mom's status. She was so sweet and compassionate. She immediately noticed how distraught I was and gave me a hug. She was very honest with us regarding my mom's prognosis, and after she had gotten my mom settled, she brought the family in to be with her. Even though she had just been assigned to our mom, Alissa treated her like she had been with her since the beginning. Alissa knew her and the family's wishes, and when she realized she would not be able to keep mom both comfortable and alive, she facilitated with the doctor to move over to comfort care. Alissa was gentle and kind throughout the process, especially during this transition. She did what she had to do while giving us our space to say goodbye. When our mom did pass, Alissa was there with hugs and tears, as if she was a part of the family. Her kindness, compassion, and gentleness made a very difficult time a little bit easier. What touched me the most was that even though she had just met us all, she was very invested in our mother's comfort and supporting us.
