Allie quite literally "saved the day." Her care and compassion truly put my and my husband's minds at ease.
We were in the pediatric ED with our 3-month-old who came in for hypoxic respiratory distress due to RSV. We had been on a PICU hold for over 24 hours and our daughter had only decompensated over this period of time. We had an adult ED nurse take over our care at shift change, and as a previous PICU RN, I was concerned about the care she required and may not receive with a nurse that doesn't typically care for pediatric patients. Allie came in to help this nurse with a task and immediately advocated for our daughter. Her knowledge and experience showed when she cared for our daughter all while expressing the care that she required. She assisted the RN with her care and became not only a voice for my daughter, but myself. It doesn't matter how much knowledge you have, when it comes to your own children, it is hard to think straight. She brought our daughter's condition to the attending and resident which then led to her requiring bipap. I strongly believe if it weren't for Allie, our daughter would have only worsened through the night, and we may have been in the hospital longer than we were. Allie quite literally "saved the day." Her care and compassion truly put my and my husband's minds at ease. She explained everything that she was doing, speaking to me as a mother and not a fellow nurse, and I can't begin to express how much that meant to me. She provided the absolute best care for our daughter, and I will forever be grateful for her. Our daughter made a full recovery after a five-day hospital stay and I feel that Allie deserves this nomination and then some. THANK YOU AGAIN, Allie!!
