Allie’s humor and care during my stay made me feel connected to and seen.
After a 57-hour labor, with the intention of a natural delivery, I ended up having to have a C-section, which led to the need for an iron IV for 2 days. My midwife hadn’t checked in on me, and we weren’t sure if I’d need a third day of IV. By the second day, I was feeling quite a bit of discomfort with the IV, and Allie decided to take it out and monitored it during her watch. Toward the end of the day, it only grew more inflamed and caused quite a bit of pain. I was discharged the following day, and she was concerned it might be a blood clot. She contacted my surgeon and let him know that I hadn’t been checked in on in 3 days by the midwife team and that she thought I needed an ultrasound before my departure. He agreed, and it turned out I did, in fact, have a superficial blood clot.

Beyond that, Allie’s humor and care during my stay made me feel connected to and seen.

Thanks to her, I left with a treatment of two weeks of Lovanox, which created a clear sense of accountability for my care, which ultimately, every woman wants. Having a child transcends labor; it’s post-partum care and beyond. Allie would be my chosen nurse any day of the week. I’m enormously grateful she was there at the time she was.
