Allie models empathy and demonstrates MUSC's core values towards her patients every day she works. One moment that stuck out to me was when Allie was taking care of a young Spanish-speaking patient who had been in the hospital for many months. His prognosis was very poor and he and his family were having a hard time processing this information. Allie took the time to bring the interpreter to the bedside and sat with the family to listen to their concerns and just be there for them. Through this dedication, Allie learned that the patient's birthday was coming up and was most likely going to be spending it in the hospital. Allie took it upon herself to make his birthday memorable. In preparation for his birthday, Allie purchased decorations and a cake that showcased a trick candle. Allie took the initiative to recruit all the staff working that day to learn how to sing happy birthday in Spanish for the patient. The patient and his family were blown away by how personable Allie was and how dedicated she was to her patient care. She went above and beyond to make a difference in this patient's life and in this, she demonstrated the true essence of a DAISY Nurse.
