I felt Allison was very knowledgeable of the procedure I had. She was caring about my concerns and the pain I was having. She set a plan for me and listened to what I had to say about what I was feeling. I felt as though we were a team and were solving the problems I was having together. She had a sense of humor and was joking with me to help lighten the mood I was in. She addressed my concerns with the misunderstanding I had with my doctor and even helped me understand from my doctor's point of view. This was important because I became confused at what was expected of me and that made me very upset. She calmly clarified to me what was expected and gave me a better understanding of what I was upset about. She checked on me several times and remembered when next pain meds were to be given and was there within 10 minutes of the time. She made me feel less embarrassed of my condition and my girlfriend was very pleased to see that.
I have been admitted here on this unit four times now. Allison was the best nurse I have had and in my opinion, set the bar high. She is truly a team player and to high five when I was accomplishing my goals for walking was truly uplifting and set my mood in the right direction to the road to recovery. I'll always remember the surgery and pain I suffered from my diverticulitis, but I can now at least tell the story with how I felt with the best care from the staff, doctors, and nurses at U of I Hospitals and most of all, Allison.
